What's new?
A lot has happened since Grandma and Grandpa left a few weeks ago. The day after they left Tyler slept 8 hours. The next night, 9, the next 10, the next 6, the next 10, the next 11. He was on a roll. Then, he got sick:( He had his first cold. He had a temp. of 101.6. He had the green snot, watery eyes, flush cheeks, irritability. The next night he woke up every 2-3 hours. Poor guy. I talked to our childbirth educator, Kathy, who seems to have a lot of great advice. She suggested taking a bath with him, with the temp. just above body temperature, elevating one end of the bed, feeding him frequently, suctioning his nose after putting a little bit of breastmilk up his nose (which believe it or not works really well), cutting an onion and putting it in a sock above the bed (also worked really well), running a humidifier and having mommy change her diet and take echinachea tinture. All in all, I think it all really worked and helped him a lot. He is feel much better. His fever was gone over night and his nose has been gotten a lot less congested. All without antibiotics, which I would like to avoid unless absolutely necessary and Tylers doctor is supportive of that. His doctor actually told us that the FDA does not recommmend giving decongestants or antihistamines to infants, toddlers and young children anymore. I don't believe they even sell them anymore? So, all these remedies seemed to really help and they will help strengthen his immune system.
Teething...I keep thinking he is teething, but no teeth yet. This week his gums look a little swollen, so maybe sometime soon.
Vaccines...Tyler is going to be receiving his first shot in the next month. Boy has that been a headache trying to figure out what to do. He is going to be getting his DTaP shot. Still not sure if we are going to do it at his doctors office (waiting to hear if they can get the shot that we want, Deptacel) or is we will be going to Dr. Feder's office in Santa Monica.
Tyler is an amazing little boy. We just love him so much. He loves to laugh. He loves to chew on everything. I think he will be starting solid foods soon. He is watching us very intently while we eat. He loves to stand.
What's new with mom and dad...some exciting things are happening in our community. We live in an apartment complex as some of you know. Our friends Chris and Elizabeth live here too. Last week we had some other friends move in, Tim and Jamie. In a few weeks, we have two other couples from our church that are moving in also, Dan and Alex, Donna and Lutz. Our apartment manager is excited about the community we are bring and he is letting Dave start a garden on the car port. Dave is really excited too. He went and got pots and soil to start it today. He will have tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, beans and strawberries going out there. The manager also told Dave he could be like the apartment community organizer:) Does that sound like Dave or what? He can plan BBQ's by the pool and get the neighbors out to meet each other. He also told us we could look into putting a kids playground out on the carport. I am going to do some research to find out what we need to do to get that going. I am excited about that for all our kids:)
Mommy is still taking lots of pictures. Recently, she tooks pictures of the cutest little kids...the Way's. They were wearing Kimonos. There family is going to be in a history museum and they needed some pictures to put up in the museum so mommy took some. You can see them on her blog..www.shelbyknight.blogspot.com.
