Happy Easter

Today was Tyler's first Easter. It was special because he spent it with his Grandma and Grandpa Knight. He went to his first Easter service to celebrate the Risen Lord. Mommy sang in the choir at church and daddy was in charge of getting food for everyone to celebrate communion after the service. We had Holy Moly Guacamole, because the food is good, not because of the name.

Tyler is 5 months old now. Boy how the time flies. He is drooling, talking , squealing, singing. We can't understand him yet, but he sure is a social butterfly. He chews on everything and puts everything in his mouth. He is 26 inches and weighs 14 lbs. and 13 oz. He took his first dip in the pool today. It was almost 80 degrees outside and he loved it. He splashed around for a while until it got in his eyes. Then he didn't like it so much.

Grandma Olson was all ready for Tyler. She got out Lucus's old crib set, washed it and had it ready for him. She bought him a blanket and towel to use while he was there. She had diapers, wipes, and special lotion for his excema too. She had lots of toy's for him to play with. He was spoiled and loved it:)

Tyler did well on the plane ride except for a little motion sickness on the decent into Detroit. On the way home he was a little crabby and had a hard time sleeping on the plane, but we had some nice people that sat next to us and they traded us seats so we could have an empty seat next to us. It was helpful because Ty is a little wiggle worm and he likes to move around. He did well on all the car rides too. I guess he was born to travel:)

He met lots of new people while we were in Michigan, but a lot of people were on Spring Break, so we missed them. He met Cousin Bree, Uncle Brad, Abby, The Noll's, Mary Darling, Kim Hayworth, Amy Hawkins, Doug Blume, The Prater's, Ron Kopicko, The Bacon's and Adam's, Rebecca Teitsma, Aunt Lisa and Uncle Mark and a few others at the Spring Arbor FM church.

Mommy have taken up a new hobby in the last couple years, sewing. She has made me burp cloths, blankets, and now bibs. These are some of the bibs that mommy made me and my friends Ethan and Clayton. The material in the middle is for the next set of bibs. She made some others ones for Aunt Lindsay's boutique she is having at a garage sale. All of her friends are making different items to sell at the boutique....pillow case dresses, burp cloths, ribbon hats, towel bibs, bows, and more. I think it is a neat idea.

4 Months

Things are looking up this week. Tyler has been sleeping ten times better this week. You might wonder what's the difference? Well, let me tell you...consistency and routine. I made a commitment to get Ty up at the same time everyday, put him down for his naps in his bed at almost the same time and feed him about every 4 hours. He seems to really like it. He has been sleep from 7:30 or 8 to 2:30 or 3:00 for the last five days. He gets up again in the morning at about 7:30am. He is taking at least two hour long naps. I am feeling a lot better also. We do the same routine before his naps and bedtime so he know what to expect. Thanks to everyone for their support through this.
Tyler loves to play right now. He is holding things and bringing them to his mouth. He is starting to yell because he found his voice can go louder. It's funny. I will try to post a video soon.

Experience as a parent by Shelby

I guess part of doing a blog is being honest. I hope to teach Tyler that quality some day, so I guess I better practice it myself. It has been a rough week. Tyler has been crying a lot. He doesn't seem satisfied when he eats his last meal of the day. He will cry for like 2 hours in the middle of the night. I have had a sinus infection. I know parenting isn't supposed to be easy and almost nothing about parenting has been easy so far. I am definitely learning to let go of many of the freedoms I had before being a mom. I guess I just had no idea that I was going to be questioning myself and how I am doing as a parent so often.I feel like it is guessing game all the time, trying to figure out what in the world is going on with him and what I am supposed to do about it. When is he supposed to sleep, supposed to eat, supposed to be teething, supposed to be awake. Where should he sleep, should I stay home or go out with him? Should I eat this? Did something I eat cause him pain? Everyone has a different opinion and different experience to share. It is really tiring.
I guess in a way that is beautiful because it shows how we are all created differently, but it is so confusing to me. It is like a big puzzle with missing pieces and different piece thrown in the box and you have to figure it out and figure out which pieces are missing and which ones don't belong. It is frustrating. I don't feel encouraged right now...I feel like I am so alone because I have had to neglect friendships. I can't even carry on a conversation with people that come over to visit. I feel distracted and like a terrible listener. I apologize to anyone that I have neglected. I think this will pass and I will be more alert and a better friend.
Thankfully I have a wonderful husband who would do anything for me and loves me no matter what I do. He is awesome!
The funny thing is that I would do this again. To look at Tyler and see what a cute little guy he is and to think that God created him is just awesome. He is such a little miracle and I would never trade him for anything. Through all the trails and hard times God has given me strength and I know He will comfort me. Afterall, I can not imagine sacrificing my son like god did with Jesus. The least I can do is sacrifice myself, my ideals, my sleep, my plans for the sake of my son.
In the end, I have a healthy baby boy. We had a doctors appointment yesterday and he is 26 inches long now. He weighs 13 lbs. 12 ounces. She said he may start teething soon. I think he has started or he has been going through a growth spurt.

Tyler's Baptism

It has been a busy week in the Knight household. We started off the week with a good friend going into labor. Shelby acted as her doula and photographer. She spent about 24 hours with Elizabeth and her husband Chris at home and a birth center. Tyler spent the day with daddy. He did great. Elizabeth delivered her first child, Ethan Ashton, naturally at 2:08 am on Tuesday Feb. 24th. It was amazing. She did great through a long hard labor and a transfer by car to the hospital from a birth center. Birth is such an amazing experience.
Later in the week Grandma Olson came to visit us. She has been such a huge help. She helped mommy rearrange the living room, clean, take care of Tyler and mommy when mommy got a sinus infection. She will be in town for one omore day. We are sad to see her go. Tyler loves it when she sings to him.
Yesterday Tyler was baptized and Grandma got to represent the entire extended family that could not be there. It was important because they will play a part him raising him to be a man of God. The service was special for us because it was a call to the community to surround Tyler as he grows and learns about his faith. As an individualistic society we think that our faith is our own, but in actuallity it is a community of faith which is why we baptize publically. We do infant baptism because the community teaches a child about faith until they can make that faith their own.
We had numerous people come to visit the church and share this special occasion with us...Leo, the Daniels, Kristy and Matt Orzewalla, Sandra, Alexander and Matthew Mora, and the church family.
Along with these events, Tyler has really been changing and growing. He is 25 inches long now. He likes to grab and hold objects. He likes to put objects in his mouth, like his thumb, hand, rings, clothes. He is trying to talk more...babble. He has good eye contact. He responds when people talk to him with sounds.

This is a picture of Chris and his new son and Dave and his almost 4 month old son. Tyler met his friend Ethan this week. Born Feb. 24th @2:08am. Mommy got to be there to see him come into the world. He was 7 lbs. 3 oz. and 18 inches long.

Mr. and Mrs. Daniel's came to the Baptism. Tyler feel asleep after all the excitement.
